mAnGO fROST
In 2017 this beautiful Rainbow boa was collected by a farmer in South America, from the first moment I saw it I knew it was something special, black eyes with red pupils, pure white body, yellow striped pattern from neck to tail, yellow and brown scales in different shades on the head and distributed on the striped pattern that runs through the upper part of its body.
Comparing similarities and debating with colleagues we came to the conclusion that we were very possibly in the presence of a gene called “Super Fire” which is known in Boa constrictor (Aka Princess Diamond) and Ball python (classified within the Black Eyed Leucistic complex), but never seen before for Colombian Rainbow boa (Epicrates maurus), in this case we decided to call it “Mango Frost”.
Currently the animal is in a breeding program with which I want to check the behavior of this gene individually and / or in interaction with other genes. There is much to discover, will it be a recessive gene? Could it be grouped in some complex with other types of leucism? Only time will tell…
I am very excited to be able to work with this new mutation, I hope to get positive results in the near future and thus continue to contribute with the fascinating world of Herpetoculture!

En 2017 este bello animal fue colectado por un granjero en Sur América, desde el primer momento que lo vi supe que había algo especial en él, ojos negros con pupilas rojas, cuerpo color blanco puro, patrón rayado color amarillo desde el cuello hasta la cola, escamas amarillas y marrones en diferentes tonos, en la cabeza y distribuidas sobre el patrón lineal que recorre la parte superior de su cuerpo.
Comparando similitudes y debatiendo con colegas llegamos a la conclusión de que muy posiblemente estamos en presencia de un gen llamado “Super Fire” el cual es conocido en Boa constrictor (Aka Princess Diamond) y Python regius (clasificado dentro del complejo de Leucísticos de ojos negros), pero nunca antes visto para Boa Arcoíris Colombiana (Epicrates maurus), en este caso decidimos llamarlo “Mango Frost”.
Actualmente el animal se encuentra en un programa de cría con el cual deseo comprobar el comportamiento de este gen en individual y/o en interacción con otros genes. Hay mucho por descubrir, ¿será un gen recesivo? ¿Podría agruparse en algún complejo con otros tipos de leucismo? Sólo el tiempo dirá …
Estoy muy emocionado de poder trabajar con esta nueva mutación, espero obtener resultados positivos en el futuro cercano y así continuar aportando al fascinante mundo de la Herpetocultura!
